Study abroad in the university of Sheffield.

 If you are interested in study abroad programme in the University of Sheffield, read this! I am going to give you some tips. 

The university of Sheffield is well known as the first ranked university for student experience in the UK. Also, there are so many international students and erasmus students. Sheffield is a peaceful city and located in middle part of the UK. 


 If you get an offer letter from the University of Sheffield, you will need to find an accommodation in Sheffield. Actually, there are some private accommodations in city and university accommodations, which are Ellen Court in city, Endcliffe village and Ranmoor.

I had stayed in Endcliffe village for one semester and my room was a catered accommodation. There are two types contract, self-catered and catered. In city, accommodations only have self-catered accommodations, 899 en-suite rooms, 133 deluxe rooms and 253 rooms with shared bathrooms. In Endcliffe, there are 2,887 self-catered rooms, 480 catered rooms, 2,483 en-suite rooms, 82 deluxe rooms, 802 rooms with shared bathrooms. Ranmoor offers self-catered rooms, 1,077 en-suite rooms and 72 studios.

Actually the University of Sheffield guarantees providing accommodations to exchange students unless late application for accommodations. However, most of contracts are for one year term. So If you are supposed to be one semester exchange student, you should need to apply as soon as you get offer letter.

 During one semester, I was holding a SVV(Student Visitor Visa). I had some problems because of this visa. It can not prove my address in the UK. Actually, proof of address is quite important when you open a bank account in the UK. There are many banks in the UK, but all of them do not allow to open an account without some documents. When you want to open an account, you have to request a bank letter from uni and need to book for interview. However, most of bank rejected my application, because I could not prove my address with official document. Student holding Tier 4 visa can open an account easily but it is not easy for student holding a SSV. Don't worry!!! There is a so friendly bank in Sheffield. The bank is Yorkshire bank. Even they do not charge you monthly fee. In the UK, there are so many cash machine withdrawing without fee. It means that you do not need to worry what how many bank branches Yorkshire bank has. So I recommend you to use Yorkshire bank if you are planning to get a SSV.

 Of course you are planning to travel around the UK and Europe during study abroad in the UK. Sheffield has no international airport. You have to go to Manchester or London for travelling Europe by flight. However, travelling in the UK is easier. Fortunately, there is a train station and there are so many trains to go everywhere in the UK. However, train fare is so expensive. If you are under 25 years old, you can make a rail card and get 20% off. If you are over 25 years old and you are staying more than 20 academic weeks, you can make a rail card as well. But if you are over 25 years old and staying less than 20 weeks, you can not make it. However, you don't need to worry about it. Just make a book early!!! If you book a train ticket before 1 month, you can buy a ticket with lower price. However, it depends on destination and time.

 During staying in the UK, I met so many new friends and I have kept in touch with some of them. Actually my time in the UK is not perfectly satisfied. Because living cost is so expensive and I was allocated catered accommodation, it was my fault, especially, terrible whether. So windy, dark, rainy and cloudy. However, it is no doubt that I got good experience through study abroad programme.
